She outpaced all but a handful of her male mentors and counterparts. Although well regarded by critics, fellow artists, and the general public, Mitchell\u2019s achievement has never received full recognition. In 1955, Mitchell moved to France to join Canadian painter Jean-Paul Riopelle, where she continued to paint until her death in 1992.
