MONET

Description: NEW IN PUBLISHERS SHRINKWRAP. Catalog raisonne of Monet’s famous Water Lilies. Monet, the father of French impressionist painting, devoted twenty-five years to a series of paintings of the water lilies that floated in the pond of his lavish garden in Giverny. This definitive catalog is completed by 210 color reproductions of the water lily paintings with annotated captions, and period shots of Giverny by photographers such as Cartier-Bresson. This volume features an eightpage gatefold of the murals at the Orangerie in Paris, and it serves as both an accessible introductory work and a complete reference guide to an important component in the history of impressionist art.

An association copy of Henry Miller’s autobiographical book on books. The book contains chapters on his boyhood in Brooklyn and the New York Theater of the early 1900’s. In an appendix, Miller lists the top 100 books that influenced his life and work. INSCRIBED to the photo-montage artist Val. Telberg, who worked closely with Anias Nin and illustrated her 1961 paperback edition of House of Incest. Miller makes reference to China where Telberg spent the greater part of his childhood and adolescence. During the 1940’s he began studies at the Art Students League, working with Morris Kantor, Julian Levy, and George Grosz. It was here that he began to develop his own photographic voice, combining photography with dream imagery and the subconscious. He was heavily influenced by Jean Cocteau, Max Ernst, Dali and other early surrealists. Val. Telberg shared a similar world view with Anias Nin, and together they would collaborate on several projects.
